Tpac: Did you form any close friendships?

LP: My roommmate now is someone I went to school with.

"I really wasn't deeply involved socially in high school, not the normal high school."
GS: What about at Charter Oaks?

LP: That was a little more difficult. I had a few friends I kept through high school but I was always in and out, I was in New York and came back and I kept in touch with a few people I liked a lot but I really wasn't deeply involved socially in high school, not the normal high school Charter Oaks. In New York I made quite a few good friends.

GS: Did you have a dating life while you were in junior high or high school?

LP: Of course the natural Will-you-go-steady-with-me? stuff was there in junior high, but high school was a little more difficult. I had my freshman year at Charter Oaks. I liked certain boys and they liked me but I think they were a little bit scared because they thought I was this Hollywood kid and I wouldn't go out with them.

GS: So they didn't dare ask you?

LP: A few of them did, the ones that were my brother's friends and knew me and knew what I was about. That was great. But I don't think I was seriously into boys my freshman year.

GS: Did your brother act as protector?

LP: He definitely would tell me what he thought was good for me or not, but he's not the kind that won't let me learn from my own mistakes. He's very protective and if he knows I'm in danger he'll do what he can to get me out of it. But if there's a guy he knows isn't that great, he knows I'll figure it out.

GS: Are you close?

LP: He's my best friend in the entire world.

GS: What's his name?

LP: Bryan, with a Y.

GS: Do you see him often?

LP: Once or twice a week, depends on our schedule.

GS: During All My Children, were you doing any other projects?

LP: Nope, just the soap.

GS: Was it five days a week?

LP: About the same as my current soap. Every soap is about two to four days a week.

GS: What kind of character was Ang Lee?

LP: She sort of played the victim. She had an overcontrolling mother and was an illegal alien and got Brian Bodine to marry her, then she fell in love with him, and he was in love with another woman, so she did desperate, irrational things to keep him around. She faked a pregnancy and that sort of thing.

GS: Why is it that you're always cast as someone who's unlucky in love?

LP: I don't really know. I think there are a lot of women characters like that. If you watch TV and movies a lot of women play that kind of role because it's realistic. Not everyone is going to have that supercouple kind of relationship. So the probabilities are probably higher although Ang Lee fell in love toward the end with someone who loved her a lot.

GS: Do you think it had anything to do with the fact that you're Asian?

LP: No, I don't think so.

GS: Maybe because the majority of viewers are caucasian, it might be politic to have the Asian...

LP: I thought about it, I thought that might be the case on All My Children. The guy they paired me up with toward the end was a black actor. So it was like they had the minority couple and that was cool with them. The Bold and the Beautiful is a very colorblind. The screentest was me and a blond girl and a black girl and they just chose the best actress. PAGE 7
