GS: What part of New York?

LP: Upper westside. A beautiful two-bedroom apartment just off the Hudson River. I miss it. I really loved life there.
"Here I have friends who can't go anywhere without two or three friends around."

GS: You've said you were kind of lonely because you were younger than everyone else on the show.

LP: I felt kind of lonely but I learned something really important, I learned to amuse myself, or to be comfortable with just being with myself and I didn't need to have a ton of people around. Of course I didn't isolate myself. I loved being with people and I'm a people person, but I got a certain confidence I don't think I would have had if I hadn't lived there. I've seen in people my age who have lived in New York versus people who grew up in the Valley or in the LA area a sort of independence, an interest in the arts and museums and theaters and things they had to do to keep themselves busy. Here I have friends who can't go anywhere without two or three friends around. They have to plan their weekends out that Thursday in advance so they have everything planned, so they have a social plethora of things to do whereas people from New York just let it happen. It's a confidence and a self-reliance.

GS: Did you manage to have a normal childhood?

LP: Absolutely. I went to a normal elementary and middle school. The only difference was that at three o' clock when other kids went to baseball and ballet I would go on audition. When I got a part I would leave for two or three days or a week or a month and do my regular studies with a tutor. The only hard part was coming back to school and jumping back in the middle. With a kid one day is an entire year and I would miss so much and always feel out of the loop.

GS: What did that do to you?

LP: It didn't really effect me until I got to junior high school and high school because social life is so important. The girls never really liked me because I think there was a certain amount of natural jealousy and I can understand that.

GS: Which schools did you go to?

LP: Washington Elementary in Glendora, then Charter Oaks Junior High in West Covina and Royal Oaks High School.

GS: How else was your life different?

LP: I wasn't a cheerleader, I wasn't involved in a lot of school activities once I got more heavily involved in my career which was in high school. Junior high I still had pretty much of a balance. I was involved in the dance team and ASB and that kind of thing. High school was a little more difficult because I was working a bit more, and by my sophomore year I was in All My Children.

GS: So you weren't actually going to Royal Oaks.

LP: I was going to the Professional Children's School in New York. That was for musicians from Julliard and dancers from the American Ballet Theater and actors and every kid there did something different so nobody stuck out, nobody was different or strange or anything to be jealous of, because everybody had something interesting about them.
