The Quon family’s Lingnan restaurant will be serving up the latest helping of reality TV when Family Restaurant debuts August 16th on WE tv. The show stir-fries the inter-generational culture clash that is especially piquant among North America’s Asian population.
The thriving Lingnan Chinese restaurant in Edmonton, Canada was started by Amy and Kinman Quon when they were young immigrants. Their kids Miles and Mandy have joined the family business, creating endless possibilities for inter-generational wrangling on everything from menus to interracial dating. Some of the most delicious scenes are precipitated by Amy, the colorful matriarch who insists on the final word on everything from how to run the business to whom the kids should date. Between coping with the hectic demands of a busy restaurant, Miles, the manager, and his sister Mandy try to sell Amy on the changes they’d like to introduce.
The series originally debuted in 2007 on Food Network Canada, and was picked up by the female-oriented WE tv this March. Vancouver-based Anaid Productions picked the Quon family for their fun, high-energy personalities after scouting 80 other families across Canada.
