Jing Zhao Sets 3rd Swimming World Record

Jing Zhao of China has set her third world record at the short-course World Cup by winning the women’s 100-meter individual medley.

Jing won Wednesday’s final in 58.40 seconds, surpassing the 58.51 set in October by Sweden’s Therese Alshammar in Durban, South Africa.

On Tuesday, Jing twice set new marks in the 50 backstroke.

Jing’s latest world record was the eighth overall at the World Cup. Hours earlier, China’s Liu Zige set a new mark in the women’s 200 butterfly, while U.S. swimmers Peter Marshall and Jessica Hardy broke their own world records in the men’s 50 backstroke and women’s 50 breaststroke, respectively.

Records were also set by Felicity Galvez of Australia and Kaio Almeida of Brazil on Tuesday.
