Taiwan’s Yani Tseng has won the Women’s British Open by one stroke, making a 6-foot putt on the last hole to hold off Australia’s Katherine Hull.
“I was so tired, there was so much pressure out there and it’s been an unbelievable day,” she said. “Even when I holed the putt at the last I had to ask my caddie ‘Did I win?,” a relieved Tseng told reporters.
Hull had trailed Tseng by four strokes entering Sunday’s final round at Royal Birkdale but pulled within a stroke coming to the 18th hole.
The Aussie missed a 20-foot birdie attempt and finished with a 70. Tseng made her par putt for a 73 and an 11-under 277 total.
This was her third major title and she won $408,000 in prize money.
At only 21 years old, Tseng is the youngest woman ever to win three major championships. She won the LPGA Championship in 2008. Earlier in the year she had won the Kraft Nabisco.
