From his breakout on The Walking Dead to making Oscars history with Minari, the Korean American actor has redefined the modern leading man.
Steven Yeun has earned his seat as the table as one of Hollywood’s premier actors.
He returned as the voice lead in the Amazon Prime animated hit Invincible. The series, which saw its fourth season premiere on March 18th, features Yeun as Mark Grayson, a young hero grappling with his heritage as a Viltrumite-human hybrid.
Released in January he starred in Netflix’s action film The Rip alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Yeun earned widespread acclaim for his performance in the 2023 Netflix black comedy Beef. His portrayal of Danny Cho earned him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor, while he also shared in the show’s win for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series as an executive producer.
His career began in Chicago as a member of the legendary improv troupe The Second City. Just a year after moving to Los Angeles in 2009, Yeun booked his breakout role as Glenn Rhee on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Appearing in 87 episodes, he became a fan favorite, with his tenure on the apocalyptic series earning him over $5 million.
In 2020, Yeun made history as the first Asian American to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role in Minari, which tells the story of a Korean immigrant family struggling to build a new life in rural Arkansas during the 1980s.
The 42-year-old actor was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Troy, Michigan. He graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2005 with a bachelor of arts in psychology.
