Jet Li's One Foundation Charity Faces Crisis
By wchung | 02 Aug, 2025
Actor Jet Li’s three-year-old One Foundation charity faces a crisis because its private status will prevent it from public fundraising, reports China Daily.
One Foundation had been operating in a partnership with the Red Cross Society of China, but that agreement is set to expire this year. When it does, the foundation will face legal restrictions on how it solicits donations.
Li called his charity “a kid without an identity”.
Li’s obvious distress during an interview with China Central TV over the suspension faced by his charity focused attention on the fate of China’s many private charity groups.
A supervisor named Ye at One Foundation said the foundation is running as usual and its contracts with Red Cross would continue, according to a statement on Wednesday’s Legal Evening News. She said Li’s words should not be misinterpreted as a sign that the foundation was about to close up, but rather as an alarm over the shared plight of private charity groups in China.
