Fanbo Zeng Gets Another Shot at the NBA
By James Moreau | 23 Aug, 2025
After a challenging G League stint, Fanbo Zeng is getting another chance to make his NBA debut with the Brooklyn Nets after a stellar three-season run in the CBA.
On August 4th the Brooklyn Nets signed power forward Fanbo Zeng after his productive three-season stint in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The 22-year-old Chinese wing will have an uphill battle to make the team but should have an opportunity to impress during preseason.
Zeng previously played for the G League Ignite during the 2021-22 season but struggled, averaging just 3.8 points through nine games with a poor field goal percentage. The Indiana Pacers signed him to an Exhibit 10 contract to play for a year at minimum salary, but Zeng failed to make an NBA debut.
This past season with the CBA’s Beijing Ducks Zeng averaged a personal best 14.7 points while shooting a highly efficient 53% from the field and 41% from three. At 6’11” he has proven to be an effective rim protector, averaging 1.5 block per game during his 3 years in the CBA. He’s also showcased offensive talents by averaging 12.3 points per game while reliably shooting 80% at the charity stripe.
Zeng was once considered China’s top basketball prospect after spending his first two high school years at Florida’s Windermere Preparatory School. The pandemic made him unable to rejoin the team after he had returned to China following the season. Touted as a four-star recruit, Zeng had originally committed to Gonzaga before opting to play in the G League instead.
