Tall Drink: The 108-story, vase-shaped China Zun skyscraper will become Beijing's new tallest attraction.
Construction began on Beijing's 510-meter (1,673-foot) China Zun tower on September 19, 2011.
Construction has begun on a 1,673-foot, vase-shaped skyscraper that will become Beijing’s tallest, announced the CITIC group. The daringly curved building will serve as both a tourist attraction and offices for the state-owned investment firm.
The 108-story tall China Zun is named after a traditional Chinese wine vessel from which it takes its shape. The gleaming glass and steel structure will have a rooftop observation deck with a café from which visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the city’s sights, including the nearby 330-meter (1,080-foot) China World Trade Center Tower 3, the city’s current tallest building. The building will be equipped with the latest green technologies and feature a soaring central atrium situated at the top.
China Zun caps off a series of spectacular buildings that have been added to Beijing since the run-up to the Olympics, including the rounded titanium-and-glass opera house, the iconic 90,000-seat Bird’s Nest Olympic stadium and the daringly cantilevered China Central Television Tower.
CITIC is also currently building an impressive headquarters building designed by British architect Norman Foster in Hangzhou.
