By wchung | 04 May, 2025
Medtronic Inc. said Tuesday it began marketing two surgically implanted devices that are intended to help relieve symptoms for patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
The Minneapolis company said it is now marketing the Activa RC and Activa PC neurostimulators in Canada, and the first implantation of the new device has already taken place. The products are intended to reduce symptoms by stimulating the brain electronically.
Medtronic said the devices have new programming options, are smaller than its older models, and feature rechargeable batteries that can last up to nine years before a replacement is needed. The neurostimulators are used to treat conditions like Parkinson’s disease and tremors.
In afternoon trading, Medtronic shares added 65 cents to $43.09.
