Mariners’ Ace Bryan Woo Hoists Team Atop AL West

Pitcher Bryan Woo’s stellar season has put the Mariners into the postseason conversation.
With a league leading 21 quality starts pitcher Bryan Woo has raised the Seattle Mariners into contention for their first division title since 2001.
In just his third year the 25-year-old was named an All-Star. To date he’s 14-7 with a 3.02 ERA – 5th best in AL and 191 strikeouts – 10th best in league. He also carried a no-hitter versus the Yankees into the 8th inning.
The Mariners are sitting atop the AL West with an 82-68 record, one game ahead of the Houston Astros who have won the division every full-length season since 2017. In addition to Woo’s success, catcher Caleb Raleigh leads the MLB in homers with 54.
Despite Hall of Fame legends Ichiro Suzuki, Edgar Martinez and Ken Griffey Jr. playing for the franchise during the prime of their careers the Seattle Mariners are the only team never to reach the World Series.
Woo’s four-seam fastball and sinker both average 95 mph and make up 72% of the right-hander’s total pitches.
Through 69 career big league games he’s tallied an impressive record of 25-15 with a 3.25 ERA and 385 strikeouts. Woo plays on a pre-arbitration contract that pays $783,000 annually. The Alameda, California native was drafted out of Cal Poly in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. His paternal grandparents were born in China.
