well i think that azns have naturally really nice hair. like whether its wavy or curly, its mostly thick, straight (mostly) and probably shiny. Its once ppl start dying or over-using hair products too much dat we start getting problemed hair. Not dat i'm saying don't go wacky on ur hair. like who can resist?? but at least limit ur monthly dye jobs and mousse, gel or hair spray use. besides, maybe u'll look better natural!

     LC,
Sleep with your hair in a very loose braid. It provides far less tension, less hair loss. And what is a "good brushing" - go easy, that can be part of your problem too. Remember hair loss can be hormonal, indicative of overall poor health, lack of a good, balanced diet, and stress. If you are doing chemical treatments, consider stopping those for a time.
Also, people, like animals, go through a spring shed, followed by a speeded up growth cycle. If your problem continues, a dermatologist would be a good place to begin rather than your stlist, who will probably just offer to sell you a lot of products.

I had a long, thick 12 inch ponytail and I was in a complaining mood one day..."oh my stupid hair, I am so sick of this ponytail..." and so forth. So my husband comes up behind me, says "let me help you then" and cut my ponytail off!! Be careful who you complain in front of!! lol...

I've had my hair long for nearly all my life, and now I've decided to bob it all off. I want to get a cute "pixie" cut, I guess you would say. I still want my cut to slim down the appearance of my face. I've looked on the internet for ideas of what sort of cut to get but I haven't been very sucessful. Any suggestions on what type of bob I should get (pictures would be great)? HELP!

I'm a shorty with short hair and I luv being complimented on how cute I am. I think it adds flair to accentuate my uniqueness.

I think that since most Asian women are petite and thin, short, "sassy" cuts are really cute. and remember when the "Rachael" 'do was popular? When young Asian women started wearing it, they made it look better.
On Asian guys, I have to say that I like spiky hair that's not dyed.

I am dying to grow my hair long because I think long hair looks great on Asian faces, but to get easily bored with long hair is the probleam with women who don't change the way they style their hair regulary.
I'd recently dyed my natural brown hair black and really like to know how to keep it that way?.

Hi! i'm 17 and vietnamese...i have this problem with my hair. i really really hate it because i cant do anything with it! it's really coarse, thick, wavy, and frizzy! i wished i could have any hairstyle i want, but i can't. then i tried highlighting it blonde and now it just looks really bad because my black roots are coming in, does anyone have any advice for me? like, what kind of cut, or what kind of hair products should i use? cuz i'm really sick of this dry hair, and blow drying it or using a curling iron take up tooooo much time and damages my hair even more! please send me ur suggestions.mimi

I heard that people literally shed hundreds of strands of hair during the course of a day, males and females included. It's just that long hair is more noticable when it falls out because it's easier to see. When I had long, 'grungy' hair in the early 90s, I could notice a lot of hair falling out, but now that I keep my hair cropped short, I barely notice. But they are falling out at the same rate. Luckily, my father and grandfather aren't bald, so I don't think I have too much to worry about. also, keep in mind that new hair follicles keep growing on your scalp.

     Hey!
My name is Lia. I happened to read one of the comments given by some girl about this "foo lai chi" straight perming method. I'm having the same problem too, and desperate for a manageable hair. do you think you can give me her contact number or email or whatever? or if you could tell me any good hair saloon that can do straight perming for asian hair in NYC area. that'd be a great help too. I'd really appreciate it.
     Thanks a bunch
Lia

I am looking for a really nice style right now for long Asian hair and it's really hard to find any styles for Asians. All the pictures I seem to find are for Caucasian hair or Asians with perms.

my aunt said that you couldn't bleach asian hair, she was wrong... my hair is green now! yay!

     Chinese American Male Hair-Lover,
My sisters and I prefer to have our hair long. Personally, I do it because it slims my face down and I feel very feminine. It also helps balance us out visually, as my sister and I are tall women at 5 ft 11 and 5 ft 8 respectivley. I'd never cut mine if it wasn't for those pesky split ends.

To the person who asked if Asian women sell their hair so African-American women can buy "real hair"--all I know is that most black women I have seen don't wear wigs. How come you imply their own natural hair isn't "real"? That's like saying lots of Asians go to plastic surgeons so they can get "real" eyes.

     Hello all,
Just wondering if there are any Asian who has long hair and actually likes it. Many of the women I know who have beautiful long hair just want to chop it off eventually. I think it's great that many short-haired women really like their hairstyles, (some look better with short hair, a lot don't), so I'm just wondering if there are any long-haired women that are the same way.

I have long hair and normally sleep with it scrunchied up. However, I've been losing what seems like a lot of hair every morning after a good brushing. I've never lost so much hair!! Should I be concerned?

My hair gradually changed colors as I got older. As a baby-maybe 7 years old my hair was black, now that I'm 15 its dark brown. I've never dyed my hair, and it's managable, no (or very few) split ends, and shiny. I think that Asian women shouldn't try to alter their hair color because unnatural brown or blonde streaks look odd and they take away from the natural beauty of what it means to be Asian.

Okay, if you had a bad coloring experience, then go to a GOOD, and I mean good, salon and ask a salonist to strip the color off for you. Some people don't know they could do that, and they leave their hair half black and half whatever color, it looks sooo ugly, if your hair is like that, I suggest you invest some money in the salon. If you're getting the color stripped off, expect to pay about the same amount you would if you were to color your hair. Oh yeah, by the way, if you ever color your hair, go to the salon and do it, at home dye jobs look bad and their after effects aren't that great either. Hoped I helped some of you and not insult others
sick of seeing bad dye jobs

remember when Winona Ryder had that pixie cut? I wish I could do that with my hair, but I can't since it's so coarse that it would do itself in as a brush cut (ugly!!! --I'm not trying to look gay, ...not that there's anything wrong with that, just that I'm not, and am having difficulty enough round up the men without confusing the signals!)

I so regret having dyed my hair a brownish-red. It's not the colour that bothers me,in fact i quite like it, but it's the split ends, countless frizzes, dry coarse hair, and the slowly-growning-out black roots that makes me wish i never dyed my hair! Even though people tell me the colour red fades the quickest, i still wish i could go back to my natual jet black glossy hair, and be done with all this dye job mistake!

I was wondering if it is true that many Asian women (mainly from Asian countries) sell their hair so that African American women can purchase "real hair?"

I am looking for a good hairstylist in the Seattle area. I have thick, slightly wavy hair that I usually blow dry straight. I am desperately searching for someone who knows how to cut my type of hair. Any suggestions for someone here? I will be flying down to L.A./Santa Monica in early July and am open to suggestions for that trip also.

I have an adopted daughter from China. She is beautiful, precious, smart etc. but she has the slowest growing hair I have ever seen. She will be 3 in August and people ask me if I cut her hair. I have barely trimmed it hoping to make it look a bit fuller. Is this common and will it grow in at some point? I have heard some people cut all little girls hair off (like a crew cut to help it grow in better) this seems like a myth to me. Any ideas?

I've oodles of thick, straight, dark brown hair, but ever since I can remember, I've wanted curly hair. Last summer I finally got it permed professionally. It was wonderful to take my hair out of the towels after a shower and have bouncy curls all around my face. My hair had so much more volume. My hair grows super fast, so now (7 months later) it's half straight and half wavy, and I'm ready to chop it off, donate it to www.locksoflove.org or www.wigsforkids.org. I want to get a pixie cut (I got my hair buzzed prior to the perm). I've never dyed my hair before, but I'm thinking of experimenting with blonde/red color, something I've avoided because I don't want to melt into the dyed/highlighted-Asian look. I think what people do with their hair is really a matter of personal preference. Take, for instance, some of the Japanese bands out there, which have wild, funky hairstyles that wouldn't be considered "attractive" by mainstream standards. It's fun to play with hair and use it to change your appearance. There's really no need to get riled about it all. =o)

I total disagree i think blonde hair or blond streaks look really hot on asian women because it brings out their nice golden color
i also want to add that i agree the brown dying is terrible

Staytru, why do you want to straighten you hair? Some asians actually wish their hair was more curly. A little curl can be nice. Asian people usually have very straight hair so I bet you're either a mixed asian race or you have another ethnic mix in your family's past.

Not every Asian female has the same skin complexion, and not every Asian girl who dyes their hair looks bad in it. It all depends on the quality of the way the dye is put on, and all kinds of stuff that depends.

I have colored my hair at least four times and I have fine hair. After I color I always use Revelon's Hot oil treatment and that seems to do the trick because its left conditioned and really soft. I have no promblem with asians and colored hair. It just depends on the color of the persons skin and the color they dyed it. I cant generalize it and say all asians look bad with colored hair because not all do. Purple tints look really good on some people. i agree with chinese girl

My Asian American wife has sworn by a group of products called "Shiva" which apparently help keep her hair well moisturized and soft. She has natural reddish-brown highlights in her otherwise black hair that she will sometimes accentuate. She regularly visits an Asian Hair Salon in Houston and has a stylist name Thanh whom she swears by.

heh

I think Asian girls don't realize how bad it looks to dye their hair. It's so unnatural looking, and many don't realize that Asian girls with their complexions look terrible in brown/blond highlights.

I have curly asian hair. Drives me nuts when I try to straighten it. Nothing I do with it will make it straight. I've tried Frizz-Ease Straightening balm, with pommade added daily. Citre Shine for rainy days...and I think it just makes it more curly. It's terribly frustrating.
Staytru

some asian women have naturally brown hair! not just because of chemicals..like me.

Tell that woman friend of yours to save some friggin money and fly to La os San Fransisco instead. Why the hell does she fly all the way to NY? All that hairdye must be killing her braincells... LA and SF are only about 1~2 hours away by plane from Portland.

hmm I like coloring my hair purple hmm do you guys think looks bad?? well if you want to improve your damaged hair use hot oil treatments they really work...
chinesegirl

I like Infusium conditioner. It's pretty cheap (about $5 for a bottle) and it works quite well. Clairol used to make some shampoos & conditioners called "Condition" and I used to really like that but I think they must have discontinued it because I haven't seen it in stores for a really long time! (probably at least 5 or more years!) I dyed my hair and it was so ruined, and dry but that stuff is a good cheap solution.
I like dyed hair, but it really destroys your hair! I'm not looking forward to covering my grey...

Once you've been dying your hair, how do you stop if you want to go back to it's natural color and sheen without going through the horrible "I can see your roots!" phase?

Help! I live in Portland, Oregon and cannot find anyone who knows how to cut my Asian hair! No matter where I go, the cut looks ok when I leave the shop, but in less than two weeks, it looks raggedy again. I actually know any Asian American woman here who flies to NY for haircuts because she has had the same difficultly!

As far as I know, AA women do not wear weave in their hair unless it was a recent fad that caught me unawares. Funny, we can't even manage our own hair, let alone the time, maintenance, and expense of a weave. It wouldn't surprise me that many AA entertainers, movie stars etc. wear weave especially in that image conscious industry. No, your question wasn't dumb at all. :-)

You know what made my hair turn lighter? After I moved from NYC to New England, my naturally black glossy hair turned brassy. Heavy iron and mineral deposits in the local water and blow drying caused it. No matter what I did, it didn't help. I have to use a hair dryer daily because I must wash my very oily hair daily, otherwise I'd never get to work. Funny, my hair can look pitch black indoors but very brassy with some pale light brown highlights in the sun. I hated it so I colored it pitch black once and over time, it actually got worse than before! I certainly agree with the people who think asian hair looks better natural.
frustrated female AA with hopeless hair

No one answered my weave question :-(
Maybe it was a dumb question.

You know what I really hate about Asian women's hair is when they color it brown. It's looks so unnatural and disgusting. Maybe it is all those chemicals they apply on their hair that makes their hair turn brown. The jet black hair is the best.

I highlighted(a little bit) my hair in 1998 and 1999. I am STILL dealing with the after effects. I wish I had never done it. I have some minimal breakage in the fron where little pieces of hair stick up. My hair is very dry and coarse. I am Korean. HELP!

I would like to help people having problems with their asian hair! I am a Japanese hairstylist with over 10 years experience (7 years in Japan) and I have concentrated on cutting for the most part. I am currently living in Toronto Canada.
