I have thick black straight hair but have lots of volume here are some suggestions for asain hair:
  1. I swear by purehair line by artet
it's all natural & organic, aromatherapy -- better than aveda the only thing is that it's hard to find if you're outside of NY or LA but you can find it on the net just look under purehair--my personal fav is sweet fennel hydrating shampoo & chamomile & aloe conditioning balm-it wonderful for thick asian hair, leaves it soft & silky & mosturized!! give it a try guys
  2. for those of you looking for a salon in NYC that specialize in cut & does a great job w/ asian hair
go to ANTONIO PRIETO SALON in DT manhattan on W 19th st the haircut will cost you $88-150 depending on who you see;I sugg you see Antonio himself , you won't regret it

     good luck guys!
korean american girl

     hey Louise Harris,
that haits tip you give, would that not damage your hair s even more are there a special kind of condition for it?

know a good salon for asians in paramus area of nj

To person who calls me "fag"
Obviously, having an interest in hair, which is a big topic of concern to every person, man or woman, makes me a "fag". If I had a choice I would definitely pick homosexuality over stupidity any day.
BTW, I think that curly hair on Filipinas is absolutely beautiful and it often makes me do a double-take.
tom ho

I have SUPER straight hair!! Nothing, I do to it will make it stay curled or in style. And if I try to use hair spray on the curls (to make the curls stay longer), in maybe 2 hours they curls start to flatten. And the hairspray makes my hair look like its matted and oily and uncombed.

Desperately need recommendations for salons in NY Metro area that specialize in cutting/coloring Asian hair....HELP!

If you have trouble with coarse, frizzy hair that's curly when wet, but then just dries into a big, fat, poofy, slightly wavy mess, then try using a a silicone anti-frizz balm like John Frieda's Frizz-Ease or Citre Shine's Anti-Frizz Balm. Citre Shine is the same thing as Frizz-Ease and it's a LOT cheaper. When the label says use on DRIPPING WET hair, LISTEN! Squeeze out your hair in the shower, but make sure that it still drips some water, wrap lightly in a towel so you don't drip on the floor, and apply the anti-frizz gunk ASAP! Then use LOTS OF HAIRSPRAY (aerosol works best...make sure the it has NO SMELL) to make your hair hold, but not enough to make it crunchy when it's still wet. Do NOT touch your hair at all and then let it dry and you should have lots of curly hair that stays well for six hours. If you do this, though, make sure to use clarifying shampoo to get the gunky stuff out, and also remember that hairspary is made of alcohol and it does dry out your hair, so don't do this every day. And whatever you do, if you have dark hair, DO NOT BLEACH! Especially asian boys...the orangey hair thing is so not appealing, but if you DO bleach, make sure your hair is bleached-blonde and not some funky shade of poopy red-yellow. Ta ta y'all! Go JAs! :@)

I find it really hard to find a colour for asian (Filipino) because we are less white, we are more dark.

I'm Filipino-American with coarse, wavy (read: frizzy!) hair that I have to torture with blow-drying. Frankly, I'm tired of magazines categorizing all Asian hair as naturally straight. After spending thousands of dollars on product made for Caucasian hair, I've finally landed on my current obsession. It's an Italian line called, TERAX, specifically Crema, Latte, and Life Drops. It's literally the only line that softens my hair quick enough in the shower. Add a couple of drops of Bumble & Bumble anti-frizz, and you have the shiniest, prettiest blow-out.
I'm spending 2 months in the high-humidity of Bali...anyone have any tips for NO FRIZZ and NO HAIR-DRYER??
Asians don't always have straight hair!

     tom ho,
get off your amy tan hate obsession and get a life! to hear u go on and on ad nauseum about her is getting tiresome. what are u doing here anyway, in the hair section? next thing, you'll be giving beauty advice and tips in the beauty section. are u a fag?!

I'm 100% asian (chinese actually) and I've always wanted that poke-your-eye-out straight straight glossy hair. So I've always been disappointed with my naturally curly and frizzy hair. I could never leave it untied. Then a friend told me about this treatment to make my hair straight and silky that lasts for 6-8 months. It's called "foo lai chi" don't know what it's called in English. Anyway, I was pretty desperate for manageable hair. The process took 3.5 hours (my hair's about bra length). The hairdresser put some softening chemical in my hair, then wrapped it in Glad wrap, and made me sit under those hair dryer thingys for about 20 minutes. Then she rinsed it out, blow dried it and used a straightening iron to straighten it. I thought it was over. But no, she put some more chemicals in, combed it straight down my back and told me to hold still for 15 minutes. Then rinsed that out too and blow dried it. It's so fantastic! Totally frizz free and straight!!!! I love my hair now! I can finally leave it out and I won't turn into the frizz monster from hell, even if it's humid or rainy.
straight hair addict.

My hair is thick, straight and coarse. Most hairdressers cannot cut my hair and make some really awful cuts in my hair. I had a really good hairdresser but she left the business and failed to let me or any other hairdresser learn how to cut my hair. Most hairdressers know how to cut fine hair and are not well versed on Asian hair. I have been thinking about getting my hair cut by an Asian hairdresser who might be more wellversed on

I agree with Asian guy that all women lose their beauty slowly as they age......if they are rich....they can sustain their beauty longer...but still it will never last..... that is the burdens of reality..
beautiful asian girl

the amy tan, long hair with eye-level straight horizontal trim bangs really makes me want to puke. I think that it is cute on babies and little girls, but it just makes the women look ultra girlish and immature. it cracks me up even more when I see non-asian women try to copy this style. Why don't all these women just wear diapers if they want to look infantile?
My second issue is that I think people on this forum are too extreme on women with hair coloring and highlights. I find nothing more attractive than a good highlight job that matches the skin tone well. There's nothing wrong with dark hair but lighter colored hair is exciting. As for it meaning that you are whitewashed, well, I actually see more white guys with asian girls with black hair (suggestive, but not that who you date is an absolute measure of how whitewashed you are).
tom ho

You know what I hate? I hate going to the hair dresser, and the only hair-do they can think of when they see an asian woman is a bob, shoulder length. duuuuuuuh, I'm a hair dresser who doesn't know any other hair cut for asians... --it's either that, or some weirdo hair that's been hacked at from every direction for that "asymmetrical" look. hand me the bowl, I gotta cut my own hair! what? how can they think that asian hair is THAT different?? it's straight and coarse, yes, but that shouldn't limit the styles THAT much!!

Amused but always loving asian guy
It's not necessarily true that hair loses it luster and body primarily due to age. The hair of women of any race and age may lose its vitality due to pregnancy, and hair dyes. Pregnancy because hormonal changes causes hair to become coarser, and lose body and manageability. It's usually temporary but in some cases, it's not.
Most older women are graying and resort to hair dyes to cover up the gray. It's usually the hair dyes that causes the changes in texture. My 80+ yr old grandmother's hair remains black even to this day and she doesn't dye it. Her hair is so fine, and shiny like a teenager's. I'm middle aged and my hair, despite daily washing, is extremely shiny and manageable, unchanged since my teenage years. It's just a little less shiny now because I dye it to cover gray. Ask any elderly person of any race who suffered from hair dye allergies and had to stop dyeing their hair. Their hair almost always grew in softer, with more body just like when they were younger.
To the person who recommended Aveda Phomollient. Does it cause flyaways? Some conditioning products make my hair static and flyaway in the winter. It's so annoying.

     recommend: Aveda Phomollient
for hair that responds well to blow-drying with a round brush, but doesn't hold curl without styling products.
I am Asian with straight, not-too-fine black hair in a chin-length layered bob, and styling products always weigh my hair down the second I walk out of the salon. Phomollient really is light, while adding hold. It's also good for taming cowlicks when you crawl out of bed. (My cowlicks are terrible in the morning!)

To person who says that Asian women have no vlome in their hair: Hey, are you asian?? Have you ever seen an asian?? Maybe the only ones you see are in Magazines?

Please can you advise me on hair waxes on asian hair (Japanese). thank you.
jane.edwards@unilever.com

Most Asians' hair are actaully a lot drier than it looks since we know how to condition it properly.
Tip: if you have really black hair & it looks dry, try dying it dark brown NOT light brown!!
Jap'em chick

Asian chicks look good with long, straight hair when they are young, but once they get old, their hair loses its vitality/perkiness and body, and it sags like a wet cloth. So to counter this problem, they get really tight perms that always result in those ghetto ass, "Asian Grandma " afros!! Hahaha.... I'm sorry if I sound really mean, but it just cracks me up to think that all you chicks who praise yourselves to death on your 'lovely hair' will end up having huge beehives on your heads at age 50. Hey but dont get me wrong... I still stick by my beautiful Asian women... All women, reegardless of race, lose their beauty when they age. It's what's INSIDE that keeps men around when women age. Believe it or not, it IS important, at least to me.
An amused, but always loving, Asian Guy.

These comments make pleasant reading, except for the embarrassing outburst from "Proud Chinese American Woman In Chicago." You know, PCAWIC: 1. A lot of Asians do use street slang 2. "The back alleys of the ghettos where they only teach half wits" is one of the most offensive assumptions I've seen anyone make in a while 3. What does general Asian heritage have to do with perfect English? 4. There's no such thing as "too stupid to be called ASIAN" - or any other ethnicity. And, since you're such a stickler for standard English 5. You should have used a period after "Read it again" instead of a comma, and "highlight" should have been "highlighting." I could go on, but you get my drift..?
As for the issue of Asian women dyeing their hair, I agree with those who say it depends on the individual. I think red hair looks fine on my sister (we're Chinese/Japanese), but it wouldn't on me.

I personaly think asian hair is beautiful! I'm not saying that just because I'm asian, but because I mean it.
An Asian chick from Wisconsin

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but do Asian girls wear weave. I've seen HK, J, & K-Pop singers use weave, but what about the real people in the world?
AsioPhile 81

Theres this korean chick with jetblack hair..one day she comes to school with BRIGHT BLOND BIG chunks of streaks(not little ones, big) and that freaked me out. She DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. my hair looks good because it is some what natural...fits my face...(its highlighted, yes). But my point is...try to make your haircolor more to the natural side.. gosh, im a hypocrite cus i wanna streak it blue

asian womens hair is normally very nice but if you have problems with split ends and breakage is to cover your hair with conditioner then put a rain cap or even plastic bag on your head for around a hour once it is done rinse out conditioner your hair will feel soft and it will prevent breakage do this once a week.
louise Harris mixed race short shoulder length hair my e-mail address : HLAHarris

Asian women have no volume in their hair, it's just flat and life less.

I am looking for hair salons that have good experience with asian hair (preferably a Japanese one). Can anyone help me locate one, or is there a way for me to do a search on the internet?
I live in Delaware, US but I will travel 3 hours to it if there is one :-) I'm so desperate!!
     Thanks
Tracy

I absolutely love my hair long and slinky, but my sister's hair definitly needs to be cut short. It always looks a dirty oilly texture, and she never does anything if we can get her to comb it before she goes to school. Hairstyles depend on the person, and sometimes who they live with.

For the person talking about giving other asians a bad name... GOD! I hope you aren't asian! Just what you wrote made yourself sound sooooo stupid, too stupid to be called ASIAN. Read it again, Where did YOU go to school? The back alleys of the ghettos where they only teach half-wits? Learn to spell, learn to speak and if you are asian, learn your heritage... suffering through an identity crisis? I am proud of my long dark asian hair. Yes, I highlight it, it accentuates my beautiful asian features. There is nothing wrong with coloring or highlight or even perming, as long as you feel you are beautiful with what you do.
