GREAT ASIAN MALLS & SUPERMARKETS
oreatown Plaza is at the geographical heart of Koreatown, on Western north of Olympic Boulevard and south of 8th Street. That's saying something because Koreatown is a vast stretch of L.A.'s commercial district west of downtown. KTP is Koreatown's first indoor mall, having opened a year before the L.A. Riots. Being completely enclosed, it was the only Corean (Korean) mall to emerge unscathed from the fires and looting.
The tri-level mall with security parking is anchored by the Plaza Market on the ground floor. Until the Koreatown Galleria opened in 2002, the Plaza Market was the deluxe Corean supermarket, charging higher prices for nicer presentation and ambience. With the opening of several bigger, newer supermarkets, the Koreatown Plaza's primary distinction has shifted to its boutiques. |

The safe, controlled environment has made the KTP a favorite among well-heeled Corean women. Catering to them is an extensive collection of upscale boutiques selling brand-name fashions, accessories and cosmetics, as well as housewares and electronics, at prices that are quite competitive with comparable stores in places like Rodeo Drive or the Beverly Center. The Koreatown Plaza is busiest in the evenings when families have time for a leisurely meal followed by a shopping spree. |
