Love Story of Sohee and Pierre

t's a long story, but a damn good one! Hey, you don't have to read it if you don't want to....
A little preface: On our first date, we were supposed to go the Museum of Natural History to check out the butterfly exhibit. But Pierre had failed to tell me that the butterflies were actually ALIVE and that they flew around you. Having a deep-seeded fear of all winged creatures, I refused to go into the exhibit. After a long session of cajoling from Pierre and the museum info lady, I decided to go in. BUT, by then, the tickets to the exhibit were all sold out so we never ended up going to the exhibit. Bummer!
Fast forward to a year later: Pierre had asked me to meet him in Soho one afternoon. And while I was expecting to see him, a car pulled up. Pierre's friend, Ali, got out of the car, gave me a bag, told me to get in the car and said that the driver would take me wherever I needed to go. She walked away and left me completely bewildered.
Inside the bag was a glass cube that contained a beautiful Monarch butterfly. The card attached said, "Overcome your fears, and you'll find true love. Follow the butterfly, and you'll see that true love waits." Attached to the card was a ticket to the 5pm butterfly exhibit at the Museum of Natural History.
After fighting rush-hour traffic, I finally made it to the museum. I was late. I was flustered. And I had no idea what was going on. When I got to the butterfly exhibit, the ticket lady handed me a rose and led me into the completely empty exhibit. Forgetting my deep-seeded fear of winged creatures, I stepped into the exhibit... and there he was. Pierre led me by the hand to a corner, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. And of course, I said yes.
When we kissed and hugged, we heard cheering from outside the glass exhibit walls. Pierre had the museum staff in on this whole proposal.
We left the museum and got into the waiting car. I was still in shock from the whole proposal but little did I know that there was more to come. After some crying, some kissing, and some hugging, Pierre handed me an envelope. I opened the card and it read, "Thanks for making me the happiest man alive. I love you more than anything and I promise to be by your side until the end of time. You once told me that you'd love to be treated like a Queen for a day. Though you'll always be my Queen, let's go try to make it official. You'll understand." I opened the envelope to find our passports and two tickets to London, leaving that night. The driver was taking us to the airport for an 8pm flight to Heathrow. In a panic, I said, "But wait! I didn't pack!" And Pierre calmly said, "Don't worry, I packed for you."
And so, we drove to the airport, drinking champagne in plastic champagne flutes that Pierre packed for us. When we got to London at 6:30am, we checked into the most unbelievable suite in the swankiest hotel. And as promised, I was treated like a Queen.
You would think that was the entire proposal but there was more. Pierre had 2 more surprises for me. The first was a beautifully hand-bound leather book, which contained all the letters we had exchanged from the beginning. And, the second, was a website that he built just for me (www.soheesong.com), which contains a love letter, pictures, and all my favorite links. But, I’ll stop here to spare you all from further nausea. Needless to say, with a proposal like that, how could I say no?

About Sohee
If Sohee didn't exist, I would have had to invent her. Beautiful, sexy, smart, brilliant, honest, compassionate, hysterical and ever-fascinating -- she's my ideal woman and my best friend. I've never loved anyone like I love her. And I never have as much fun with anyone else on this planet as I do with her. Yes, her cooking abilities are confined to instant noodles. Yes, she never met a dirty dish that she liked. And yes, she believes that laundry should only be done on a bi-annual basis. Those are things about her that I truly love and adore. But there's so much more.
I can't even begin to explain all that I love about her.
But most of all, I love the fact that she's my best friend. She's my soul mate. She's my partner in crime. And she’s the one that I can't ever imagine living without for the rest of my life.

About pierre
I knew Pierre was the one for so many reasons. There isn't anything about Pierre that I would want change. And, there is nothing more I could I ask for. I love his caring heart, his unmatched wit, his boundless patience, and the way he looks in a pair of leather pants. I love his quirks, too. I love his goofiness, his sarcastic humor, his cynicism, his uninhibited laughter, and his ability to sell people out in a heartbeat (friends, you know what I mean). I love his fake accents, his fetish for grammar and obscure idioms, and his insatiable love of magazines (which he refuses to throw out). I even love his gross, crusty socks, and his, albeit contagious, habit of leaving them all over the living room floor.
But, most of all, I love the way I feel when I'm with Pierre. He makes me feel: loved, beautiful, calm, safe, giddy, goofy, carefree, and HAPPY.
By the way, did I mention that he cooks, cleans, and is a complete stud?

HOW WE MET
from Pierre's point of view: the short story:
She was living out in Los Angeles. I was living here in New York. But a mutual friend (THANKS, T.Y.) thought we would get along (it was NOT a "set-up"), so when Sohee was coming back to New York for an extended vacation, our friend gave her my phone number and e-mail address. From the second we met, we hit it off immediately. We shared the same sense of humor and never seemed to run out of things to talk about. It was as if we had been friends forever. But alas, Sohee returned to L.A. so our friendship blossomed over e-mail and phone. Soon, we were e-mailing each other 5 times a day and talking on the phone for hours at a time. Sohee had firmly placed me into that dreaded "friend" category but it was only a matter of time until she finally caved in and realized what I had already known…that we belonged together. And who says persistence doesn’t pay off! A long series of bi-weekly, transcontinental flights began (thanks, TWA) and the rest is history.

WHEN
July 07, 2001
New York, NY
A LITTLE ABOUT THE BIG DAY
Pierre and I envisioned virtually the same things for our wedding. We wanted a very New York, very simple, very modern wedding. And, most of all, we wanted to throw a really fun party for the people we love.
So, we picked a loft space with 2 floors, views of the Hudson and a wrap around terrace. (www.studio450.com)
     Hope to see you there!
